Many people today are wondering if hiring a Realtor is worth it. Here’s a recent case study from one of our past clients who was otherwise told that they could not buy a house. We didn’t take no for an answer and today Deon is a satisfied past client and home owner.Are you a first-time homebuyer that’s worried your credit score will prevent you from getting a loan? In this video, I’m going to share the story of how Deon was able to purchase a house even though his wife had a low credit score. By using some creative problem solving and thinking outside of the box, we were able to get these two in a new home.
Deon’s Loan Story
Deon had amazing credit and was about to buy a house, but he got turned down for a loan. Why? Because his wife’s credit was only 550. While most people would’ve given up at this point, we didn’t. The fact that Deon now owns a house is proof that sometimes you just have to be creative.
The first time I met Deon, he came inside my office with his awesome FICO score. The problem was his wife didn’t, and the only way the couple was ever going to be able to buy a house was to raise her credit score. We needed to get his wife’s FICO score up to about 640, which was going to be a task
Raising A Credit Score
The first thing we did was pull Deon’s wife’s credit. We saw exactly what was on her credit and, lo and behold, she had some activity that did not belong to her. We put together an identity theft affidavit and sent it to a local police station. She got a police report, which we then sent off to her credit bureaus.
Legally, with the police report and an identity theft affidavit, the credit bureaus have to block your accounts that are in question. This brought his wife’s credit score from 550 all the way up to 750—in just 35 days. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t understand the importance of their credit. In this particular case, Deon’s wife had a bunch of negative items on her credit report that weren’t even hers. All we had to do was find the legal way to get those removed and, once we did, we were able to find her a house.
Once we started looking at properties, we found the home they were looking for. They were approved for about $600,000 and they’re currently living happily ever after. Here’s the kicker: we ended up in a multiple counteroffer situation and got our offer accepted because our buyer had better credit. Imagine that!
